In recent years the choir has toured in Scotland, USA, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Brazil and France, in some cases doing return tours by request - for example there were three to Versailles.
Following last year’s very successful tour, which succeeded in creating musical links and ex- changes between the two cathedrals, the cathedral choir returned to Versailles in June. This year the musicians furthered the relationships formed in 2008 strengthening ecumenical ties, dialogue and friendship between the two dioceses. This year there was also an opportunity for music outreach, when James Lancelot gave tuition to a children’s choir in Versailles and the choir gave a concert in a local school.. The choir once again stayed with French families in the parish, and were again able to experience French culture. As well as a marvellous adventure for the choir it was a working tour, involving a busy but most enjoyable schedule. Many of the costs of the tour were covered by grants and fees from paying concerts.
Highlights of the schedule included a concert in the church of St Sulpice, Paris (part of Foir St Germain festival); a concert in the church of Ste Jeanne D’Arc Versailles (part of Mois Molière); a concert in the church of St Pierre, Montfort L’Amaury; an outdoor concert in Neauphle le Château; evensong in the church of St Nicholas, followed by a catholic benediction; a solemn mass in the church of Ste Jeanne D’Arc, Versailles in the morning and a splendid picnic for the tour party, host families and choir family members, courtesy of one of the host families.
